Evidence of sabotage is apparent with the discovery of a 2" ball-valve installed at the 12 O'clock position on the 8" Umuechem-Nkpoku manifold delivery pipeline. The spill resulted from third-party interference, particularly when a truck transporting sharp sand unintentionally trespassed onto the pipeline, which had been sabotaged by unknown individuals, resulting in a rupture and subsequent oil spill.
